Kelty: I’m delighted that the redevelopment of Fort Wayne’s downtown is getting attention. And I have used Harrison Square time and time again to demonstrate to the public how I will never, ever put a deal together. We’re going to tear down a baseball park that’s 12 years old that was built for $6 1/2 million, paid for by the public, and for $1.2 million we’re going to tear it down. In addition to that, we’re going to spend $30 million to build a new baseball diamond in downtown Fort Wayne where the new residents, Hardball Capital, get free rent for 30 years. They get all the proceeds from ticket sales, merchandise sales, concessions. They get all the proceeds from the luxury boxes that the public has built for them, and all the proceeds from the – half of the proceeds from the naming rights as well. This is – this – the premise of this is flawed from the beginning. If this is such a good deal then why wouldn’t my opponent say, “let’s replicate it all over downtown”? The answer is, we’d go bankrupt. It is disappointing at best that we’ve made a site – we’ve bought it, we’ve demoed it, we did all the infrastructure, we made it pad ready for Hardball Capital to build this mixed-use condominium development – and yet, in addition to that, we’re going to give them tax credits for 10 years, we’re going to give them a $5 million tax credit so they can build housing in downtown Fort Wayne, subsidized by the public, for the wealthy to buy and live in. I think it’s a disgrace when we can’t even afford to buy Kevlar vests for our police officers and yet we’re tying up property tax dollars from Jefferson Pointe to do such a boondoggle of a project. It’s a done deal, I’ll do the best I can to make sure it’s successful.

THIS IS FROM a debate with our great mayor tom henry. we will be stuck with an increase of 7% each year untill 2025 for sewer services. yet this idiot and his minions (some republicans) go on and spend our money and give sweetheart deals for this boondogle downtown. if they knew this increase not 7% overall but 7% every year untill 2025 was comming down the pipe why in the hell are we waisting money on this monstrosity? why the hell would we give a company a deal that they make all the money from the deal for 30 years?…………… 30 years…………………… the old stadium isnt even 14  years old and weve already abondoned it. what the hell is going on? why arent we cutting other services to pay the cost? why arent we laying off some of those city workers who seem to think sleeping in their work vehicles on the clock is their right? why arent we doing away with the police car take home program ( how many have seen entire families get out with an un uniformed officer at walmart) why why why.

because its easier to take from me and you thats why, we dont have unions and we arent connected. all of this talk about a great recession you would think government would try to tighten their strings not expand i mean thats what we are expected to do. its amazing they want to bail out idiots who signed loans they know they couldnt afford but people who are responsible and actually a little intelligent are expected not only to bail them out but pay these outrageous taxes on necessities.
